Church Membership

To learn more about membership at Calvary please listen to the sermon above.

The Bible teaches that membership in a local church is the normal expectation for a healthy Christian. Christians are called to assemble together regularly to build one another up in Christ (Hebrews 10:23-25), to encourage one another regularly (Hebrews 3:12-14), to evangelize, disciple, and baptize (Matthew 28:18-20), to confess our sins to one another and pray for one another (James 5:16), and to be built up by the regular teaching of God’s Word through gifted teachers (Hebrews 13:17).

To become a member at Calvary Baptist Church, we have a 4 step process.

Membership Matters Class – Each quarter, we offer a Membership Matters class for those interested in learning more about our church. In this class, we walk through who we are, what we believe, and how we believe God is leading our church. To find out when the next class will be offered, please contact the church office.

Membership Interview – After attending the Membership Matters class, we ask you to complete a membership application. Once your application has been submitted, one of our elders will schedule a time to meet with you, typically for 45 minutes to an hour. This conversation gives us an opportunity to hear your testimony, discuss your understanding of the gospel, and answer any questions you may have.

Recommendation – The elders will review your testimony and understanding of the gospel. Upon receiving their collective approval, the process proceeds to the next step: congregational affirmation.

Congregational Affirmation – During our quarterly members meetings, or at a meeting called specifically for this purpose, an elder will briefly share how each applicant came to know the Lord and express a desire to join the church. After an opportunity for questions, the congregation will vote, and upon receiving a majority affirmation, the applicant will be received into membership.
